Gear While Leveling
What to upgrade while leveling and what to ignore. The short version: keep your weapon current, pick Stigma skills as slots open, and don't sink Kina into armour you'll outgrow in a few levels.
Overview
Progression while leveling is mostly automatic (levels grant Skill Points and Daevanion Points) plus a few deliberate choices (Stigma skills, key gear upgrades). The mistake is over-investing in temporary gear.
Think of every upgrade while leveling as a rental. If a piece will be replaced within a few levels — and most armour will — spending scarce Kina or materials on it is a loss. The weapon is the exception: it scales your clear speed continuously, and clear speed is XP per hour.
Skill/Stigma unlock levels below are from the community Level Progression wiki and are corroborated across guides; exact point totals can shift with patches and are flagged Unconfirmed.
What to Upgrade First
Weapon upgrades change clear speed; most armour upgrades are replaced before they pay off. Spend your enhancement budget on the weapon first, then on whatever slot is actually blocking a dungeon door.
| Priority | Slot / System | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Weapon | Scales all damage — the only rental worth paying for |
| 2 | Stigma skills (slots at 22/27/32/37) | Changes what your kit can do, not just its numbers |
| 3 | Whatever blocks an Item Level door | Dungeon entry gates, solved only when they actually block you |
| 4 | Armour generally | Drops and quest rewards carry you; investment is replaced fast |
Enhancement materials follow the same rule: put them in the weapon, hold the rest. If a later bracket invalidates an enhancement level, community guides suggest treating safe enhancement ceilings as soft limits — the exact safe thresholds are not yet verified and are not published here as fact.
Skills & Stigma
Leveling grants Skill Points from level 4 and Daevanion Points from level 12 (4 per level). Stigma slots open at 22, 27, 32 and 37. Commit to a Stigma build early — respeccing costs something, so early picks matter.
| System | Unlocks | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Skill Points | from level 4 | Community — Unconfirmed |
| Daevanion Points | from level 12 (4 per level) | Community — Unconfirmed |
| Stigma slots | 22 / 27 / 32 / 37 | Community — Unconfirmed |
| Stigma Shards | from level 23 | Community — Unconfirmed |
Stigma picks are the first real build decision, and the honest advice is simple: while leveling, pick the Stigma that matches how you actually play. AoE skills pay for classes that round up packs; sustain pays for classes that solo dangerous zones; group utility can wait until dungeons become routine.
Unlock levels are widely reported and consistent across guides; treat the exact point totals as indicative until verified.
Stat Priorities While Leveling
Exact stat math is endgame theorycraft and unverified for the Global client — but the archetype-level priorities below hold for every guide published so far and are safe to gear by while leveling.
| Archetype | Lean into | Why while leveling |
|---|---|---|
| Melee/ranged DPS | Attack, critical hit | Faster kills = faster quests; defence rarely matters vs. trash |
| Tank (Templar, off-tank Gladiator) | Defence, HP | Only once you actually tank dungeons; while soloing, damage still wins |
| Healer (Cleric, Chanter) | Hybrid — damage while solo, support in groups | Healing power matters in dungeons, not while questing |
Archetype priorities are community consensus, not measured stat weights. Verified weights land here after endgame testing.
Kina: Tradeable vs Soul-Bound
AION 2's economy splits Kina into tradeable and soul-bound flavours — a design NC uses to blunt real-money trading. Community launch guides describe a player-driven economy where the tradeable portion is the scarce, valuable one.
- Soul-bound Kina covers routine costs — repairs, routine vendors, standard progression
- Tradeable Kina is the market currency: player-to-player trading, the valuable purchases
- While leveling, spend soul-bound freely and hoard tradeable — early markets overprice everything
- Do not buy leveling gear off the market with tradeable Kina; drops and quests carry you to 45
The two-currency structure is community-reported from launch-week economy guides and NC's monetization descriptions; exact sources of each flavour per activity are still being verified.
Resources & Materials
Regional quests and Sealed Dungeons hand out the materials that upgrade gear and fill the Ascension gauge: Daevanion Crystals, Deanium Crystals and similar. Run them because they solve a real bottleneck, not for their raw drop value.
| Material | Where it comes from | What it feeds |
|---|---|---|
| Daevanion Crystals | Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, regional content | Daevanion progression (points from level 12) |
| Deanium Crystals | Regional quests and dungeon clears | Gear upgrading while leveling |
| Stigma Shards | Available from level 23 | Stigma skills — hoard for slots at 27/32/37 |
Material names and sources are community-reported and cross-checked across guides; which content drops which crystal at what rate is not yet verified per-source.
What to Skip
Don't grind monsters for XP, don't pour Kina into gear you'll replace in a few levels, and don't chase Item Level above your story gate. Forward progression beats completionism while leveling.
- Skip monster grinding for XP
- Skip heavy investment in temporary armour
- Skip Item Level farming above the current story gate
- Skip market purchases of leveling-tier gear — save tradeable Kina for level 45
